There are many misconceptions about ingredients in pet foods. Much of this information is put forth by pet food companies trying to sway customers into believing their food is the best product. Meat byproducts have received much of this negative attention in pet’s foods, but are they harmful?
Byproducts serve an important role in pet food as they are excellent sources of nutrients and proteins. Unlike common belief, byproducts legally cannot contain feathers, beaks, animal feet, or teeth. Byproducts generally are organ meats, such as kidneys, liver, or tripe. While this may sound unappetizing to most Americans, these organ meats are eaten by humans in many parts of the world!
