Gradual Re-opening Phase 2

Hello, Hudson Veterinary Hospital Family!

We hope that this email finds you well and staying healthy during this challenging time. Our priority at HVH continues to be the safety of our staff and clients. As the state of Ohio progresses with reopening, we also continue to adjust our procedures. Starting June 1st, we will be welcoming clients who wish to accompany their pets into our office for scheduled appointments.

Please note that our procedures will still be a little different to continue to keep everyone safe. When you arrive at HVH, please call the front office to let us know that you are here. We ask that you wait in your car or in our patio area (maintaining physical distancing standards if there are others outside) until we notify you that an appointment room is open. Our staff will then take you directly into the exam room. Our appointment rooms are small, so we would appreciate only one individual per appointment bringing pets into the building.

If you choose to come in, we request that you wear a mask or other appropriate face covering; if you are feeling sick in any way, we ask that you find someone else to bring your furry family members in to see us. For those waiting on diagnostic results or lengthy treatments, we will ask you to return to your car while you wait. We suggest bringing a good book to help you pass the time!

We understand that not everyone may feel comfortable coming into the Veterinary Hospital yet, so we will continue to provide full curbside service for those who prefer it.

For those picking up medications or food, please understand that we will be limiting the number of people in our lobby at one time.

Thank you for your patience during all of this. We appreciate everyone’s flexibility as we continue to navigate this pandemic with the guidance and regulations from the state and the Ohio Veterinary Medical Association. We look forward to SEEING you soon.

The Hudson Veterinary Hospital Team

Dr. Bob’s Retirement Announcement

Dear Friends,

As you may know, I transferred ownership of Hudson Veterinary Hospital to Dr. Kelly Willard and her husband Ryan on January 28, 2019.  I purposed to stay on in a supporting role to aid in the transition.   Now that they are well established, I will be retiring as of July 28, 2019.

It has been a privilege to serve you and your furry friends for the last 35 years as owner of Hudson Veterinary Hospital.  My mind is full of wonderful memories of people and pets that have crossed my path. I am humbled by the trust you have placed in me and my associates over these many years of caring for your treasured pets.  I hope I have served you well.

I want to strongly commend the Willards to you as the new owners of Hudson Veterinary Hospital.  They are very dedicated to veterinary medicine and have already implemented many wonderful changes to raise commitment of care and services to the next level. You will be blessed, as have I, in working with them.

As for my wife, Jane, and me, a new season is beginning.  I look forward to entertaining new hobbies and settling closer to family.  I will treasure the memories of you all.

Sincerely,

Robert Roberts, DVM

Breaking News – Welcome Willard Family!

We are excited to announce that Hudson Veterinary Hospital has new owners! Dr. Kelly Willard and her husband Ryan Willard officially purchased the hospital from long time owners Dr. Bob and Jane Roberts on January 28th. Dr. Bob will remain as a staff veterinarian here. He is very much enjoying seeing patients and having less responsibility in the day to day affairs of running the practice. Ryan has taken over Jane’s former role as practice manager and is now handling the business aspects of the hospital while Dr. Willard focuses on patient care and client relations.

When Dr. Willard joined our practice in 2018, we were all impressed with her ready smile, strong work ethic, and confident and compassionate medical care. As a captain in the United States Army, Dr. Willard spent most of 2017 in Afghanistan treating military, NATO, and CIA service dogs for everything from regular well visits to trauma and emergency surgery.

She and Ryan have two young daughters and two dogs at home in Cuyahoga Falls. Ryan has been the girls’ soccer coach at Streetsboro High School for the past 11 years and is a former high school biology and anatomy teacher. Dr. Willard is an avid runner, qualifying for the Boston Marathon every year. Both Ryan and Dr. Willard enjoy playing golf and traveling with family in their free time. They make an excellent team and we are ecstatic that they have chosen to accept this responsibility.

Please join us in warmly welcoming Dr. Willard and Ryan to the Hudson Veterinary Hospital family!

Why don’t my dog’s feet freeze in the snow?

Wouldn’t it be nice to have warm feet all winter even without shoes or socks? Your pet has an advantage we don’t, and it is not just extra hair.

When our feet get cold, our body constricts our feet’s blood vessels to slow blood flow to protect our core body temperature.  Low blood flow can mean not just discomfort, but possible frostbite.

Researchers in Japan have studied dogs’ feet circulation patterns and found an interesting difference from humans. Dogs have tiny ‘heat exchangers’ in their feet that allow the cold venous blood returning to the heart to be rewarmed by the arterial blood traveling to the toes. This keeps the core body temperature protected while allowing the toes not to freeze.

However, the risk remains for frostbite in extreme conditions for our pet’s ears and tail – so keep their exposure limited.

Christmas Puppy or Kitten?

What next?
Ok. So, you now have a new puppy or kitten adding to the Holiday chaos.  Congratulations!

I’m sure it is already clear that the family dynamics have been suddenly altered.  There are not many things more fun than the antics of a new pet.  Pet videos are forever a social media hit.  But, after the novelty fades, there are some real considerations to consider.

Your new friends need to adjust to a lot of new rules, let alone a new language.  You too need to adjust to their inquisitive natures and need for companionship and training.  Like pediatricians for children, veterinarians are here to help you with your ‘furry’ children’s health, nutrition and behavioral needs.

Get started right. Have your pet examined as soon as possible for peace of mind and sound advice.  And send us some of those videos!  Office@hudsonvet.net.

Should I keep my cat away from my Christmas Tree?

A Christmas Tree does pose a threat for some cats. What could be more fun than scaling a tower offering a new vantage point to survey the surroundings?  Or better yet, chewing on a dangling cord or shiny tinsel?

Kittens and young cats are most likely to tackle scaling a tree.  Some common sense precautions are in order.

Swallowing pine needles from a live tree can be dangerous. Vacuum frequently and keep the tree well watered but cover the reservoir with tin foil to stop any water ingestion.  Secure the tree with a tether to the wall if a sturdy base is not available. Fasten all ornaments to the branches by pinching wire hooks. It may be wise to avoid placing valuable ornaments on the tree until your cat has matured. Eliminate using tinsel. Spread tinfoil around the base and keep furniture from being too close to the tree which could encourage a daring leap.

Having experienced the surprise of a toppled tree by my own cat, I speak from experience!  Have a safe and wonderful Holiday Season.

Testimonials

Hudson Vet is in a word – fantastic. Friendly, caring and  professional staff and excellent pet care makes them stand out among the other area veterinary offices. Highly recommended.

–Mike T.

I moved to Stow a year ago and was in search of a great doctor for my 3 furballs. After reading review after review on different vetrinarians I decided to try this place. I am glad I did! Dr. Bob and his staff are amazing. He has help to remedy my cat with chronic UTI’s when every other place I have taken him to has done nothing to help except help drain my bank account. I have nothing but great things to say about this place and I highly recommend Dr. Bob for all your veterinary needs!

–Andrew F.

What a wonderful place! I’ve entrusted Hudson Veterinary Hospital with the care of my pets for the last 20 years. Dr. Bob and his staff have treated my family with the utmost courtesy and care. In fact, I feel as though they are part of my family. Dr. Bob is an outstanding vet and his staff is amazing. The boarding kennel is sparkling clean and I know that if I travel, my sweet pets will be safe and well cared for. All in all, Hudson Veterinary Hospital is top notch.

–Suzanne W.

Today I brought in my 2 cats for the first time since moving to Hudson. It was very comfy and cozy feeling inside and the staff was so nice. My exams went fast and the pricing was good. I can’t wait to bring my dogs in here. As a french bulldog owner it’s important to find the right doctor as they can/have several issues. I think I’m safe to say my fur babies will be in great hands with Dr. Bob.

–Nikki H.

My parents have been going to this veterinary hospital for many, many years and we absolutely wouldn’t have it any other way. The staff and veterinarians (shout out to Dr. Bob) are fantastic and show a true care for our furry family members. Thank you for all that you’ve done and continue to do for our pups.

–Kameron L.

I will only take my two babies to Hudson Vet Hospital. The staff loves my pups like they were their own!!

We are immensely grateful to Hudson Veterinary Hospital and we appreciate all that the staff does for us. Our family has been a client of the Hudson Veterinary Hospital since 1991 and we have found them to be always very professional and friendly. We can ask any question and be informed without being rushed, even during busy times at the office since there is always ample staffing. Over time we have had many pets, large and small. There have been ample opportunities to change our veterinary service but why would we? We are receiving excellent care, excellent service, and the best medical advice at reasonable prices. It is comforting to know that Dr. Roberts (Dr. Bob) and Dr. Funk (Dr. Mark), the techs, and the staff are very understanding, fair, and responsive to our needs. Actually in truth, at times they have gone above and beyond our expectations. The hours of operation are very convenient as well. We highly recommend Hudson Veterinary Hospital to those who care about their pets.

–Shirley L

It has been my pleasure to have several pets of mine treated at Hudson Veterinary Hospital for over ten years now. They take great care in dealing with everything from simple problems on up to major surgical procedures. The care given to the pets are second to none. The doctors and techs really take their time when you see them. The office staff is friendly and courteous. The kennel facilities are also top notch. I highly recommend Hudson Veterinary Hospital for all your pets needs.

–Richard S

Love these vets and staff! I have known Dr.Bob since the ’80s and have never been disappointed. They are most understanding and adept with an adopted gregarious German Shepard I recently brought in. They also always seem to have a piece of advice about my dog that I didn’t know before. Shots were no problem at all. I look forward to the day I can bring him in after his proper training to show them our progress. My pup still needs some work on his manners but they were very adaptive to his missteps. Would definitely recommend to any newcomers.

–Kathy J

WE love Hudson Veterinary Hospital. The staff is kind and friendly. When my dog Charley fell down the steps they got us in right away and after xrays we found that his growth plates in his leg were broken. Dr. Mark got us in to the Copley Road emergency vet immediately and after surgery and lots of money, he’s all better! We’ve been going to this vet since we got our first dog in 1984. We had a bully, Curly, who everyone loved and the staff actually cried –when Curlman passed away. Just such a great small town vet!

–Sara O

The doctors and staff have taken loving care of my pets for years. I wouldn’t take my furry friends anywhere else.

–Jeanette P

Great Staff and Doctor! Very clean facility. The Staff was very professional and was very tentative to my pet and me. They were extremely knowledgeable and was able to answer all of my questions. I would recommend to any new and current pet owner.

–Richard B

The doctors and staff respect our cats as unique creatures and provide expert care. They respect us as our cats’ caregivers by showing compassion and by addressing our questions and concerns in a patient, timely, and thorough manner. In a word – awesome!

–Naomi and Dave M.

Over the last sixteen yearsHudsonVeterinaryHospitalhas cared for our three giant schnauzers.  Dr. Roberts and his staff have earned out trust; they are always available and provide excellent care and timely advice.

One of our giant schnauzers had chronic health problems, and Dr. Bob and his colleagues provided special care.  Another is very shy and the whole staff shows him a lot of patience and attention.  All of our dogs have been comfortable boarding atHudsonVeterinaryHospitaland visiting for ongoing care.

–George and Christine V.

For nearly 10 years we have counted on theHudsonVeterinaryHospitalto care for our two dogs. Dr. Bob and Dr. Mark and their professional and kind staff have been thorough with diagnosis, caring with treatment and comforting in times of sadness and loss. We will continue to count on them – and urge everyone to count on them too.

–Molly and John L.

Being a client of Dr. Bob’s for 18+ years now, I recommend Hudson Veterinary Hospital to all pet owners.  Office visits at HVH are stress-free – the doctors and staff know both me and my pet so we’re amongst family when we walk through their doors.  The office atmosphere is welcoming and comfortable; calming, yet cheerful.  My pets receive loving attention and special treatment during their visits.  Because of the positive nature of the practice, my pets actually enjoy going to the vet!

During times of crisis, my pets and I were treated with the utmost love and respect, compassion and understanding.  The doctors and staff were very professional and very supportive.  They made me feel like the hospital family lost one of their own.  So I remain a faithful client,

–Janice H.

We love Hudson Vet!  We’ve brought new feline friends in for check ups and shots and they are SO great at making our animals feel special and loved.  They don’t even mind the shots!  On the other side, we have had to say goodbye to two pets in the past two years and the staff and doctors made the process so warm and personal. They made a horrible experience more comfortable for both us and our pets.  We would not trust our pets with any other facility.  Thank you Hudson

Vet. – Dr. Bob, Dr. Mark and your remarkable support staff.

–Brad and Brynette B. and many furry friends

My family and I wish to thank everyone at Hudson Vet for their service to the community ofHudson,Ohio.  When we moved here, it was just as important to find care for our pets as it was for us.  Fortunately, we didn’t have to look very far.  Dr. Roberts and his staff have delivered not only superb medical treatment for our loved ones when necessary, but have also been a huge support emotionally when we have experienced a loss.  Their compassion, understanding and guidance have allowed us to deal with any situation handed to us from training to illness.  They truly take a page from the animals they care for and treat and love unconditionally, helping families as a whole.  Because the staff has remained so consistent, too, we feel that they have become just as much a part of our family as anyone else.

How do you thank such wonderful people and show gratitude for such a remarkable facility?  By having faith in them and the knowledge they have to give and share with the community.  They have truly improved the quality of the relationships we have had with our pets and, at times, been able to extend the quantity of time we have had our pets with us without jeopardizing their health and well-being.

Honest, trustworthy, loving, compassionate, considerate, respectful – just a few adjectives to describe the doctors and staff.

Grateful – beyond words.

–Tom, Marcia and Christy K.

When we first moved toHudsonfrom another state 7 years ago I had to make the painful decision to have my dog put to sleep. Someone recommended Hudson Vet. Dr. Bob and his assistant, Beth, came to our house. They were patient with us, kind and gentle with our dog, Jake, and respectful of his body when they took him away.

The staff have always been gentle and patient with our many pets over the years. They’ve nursed various cats and dogs back to health. They’ve allayed my fears when I’ve worried about a pet and are realistic when describing an illness or injury.

We’ve been happy with their treatment of our pets and their treatment of us. I wouldn’t go anywhere else.

–Lori M.
